Would you like to play roller derby? Or how about being a referee? Varsity Derby League will be taking on ‘fresh meat’ in August. The sessions are:

  • Sunday 18 August, 6 pm – 8 pm
  • Tuesday 20 August, 7.30 pm – 10 pm
  • Sunday 25 August, 6 pm – 8 pm.

Anyone, male or female, aged 18+ and willing to put in the work it takes to be a derby skater or referee is welcome! No previous skating experience is necessary! We will train everyone from complete beginners to experienced skaters.

You will need quad roller skates (suitable for derby, not artistic/figure skates), a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and a mouth guard. We can help you borrow some of this gear at first, but we can’t lend out mouth guards, sorry! You will need to cover the caps on the knee and elbow pad with felt (you can get self-adhesive felt at Lincraft, Spotlight, etc) or ice hockey tape. Talk to a friendly VDL member or one of our friends like Sydney Derby Skates or Eight Track Skate Co if you need gear advice.

The session are held at Woden Indoor Basketball Courts, 13 Irving St, Phillip (just down from the ice rink).

The three intake sessions are free. After that, membership is $120 for the year (includes injury insurance) and training fees are $140 per quarter.

See you there!
